On 29th December 2024 I did an optical comms test over 94km path which is NOT line of sight.
I had installed my new optical beacon (850nm light) and decided i wanted to try for the furthest distance yet…
I set the beacon to run at home (remote controlled) and drive up to Winters Gibbet NW of Newcastle.
After a bit of a struggle with where i was meant to be pointing(!) i found the signal quite easily!
It should be possible to break the 100km barrier quite easily now, although i haven’t tried yet.. maybe next year?
