Recently I’ve moved my VLF receiver from the yard to the edge of one of the fields, about 100M away from any buildings/electricity.

Unfortunately I don’t have the best VLF location with Electricity Pylons nearby (see photos) but I have to try my best!

The hope is that it reduces noise around 5 and 8 KHz where the amateur VLF transmissions usually appear.

I plan to add two loops in the near future for directionality and noise reduction.

The setup:

DK7FC design E-Field Probe

100W Solar Panel/200Ah Battery/Charger

Raspberry Pi/Soundcard/GPS

5GHz WiFi link

I’ve built it around an old tractor wheel, this gives it some weight to hold it in position in the open field with the strong SW wind that we get!
